Doing some movement building.

For a long time, building community has been on my to-do list. Ever since I spoke to the supremely lovely James Lang, in fact, who's thinking about design skills and what they get used for and what if we turned them towards community itself? and who is creating a model that allows for people to connect with the idea, join in, build something together. (I have a great interview with James coming up next! Watch this space)

When we first spoke, early last year, James gently nudged me to think about taking these ideas – that, surely, if we could improve the way we work together, we could get SO MUCH more done – and making them bigger, more expansive. What if it didn't have to just be me, on my own?

What if there was a movement?

I know I'm not alone in believing that our ways of working together are broken, dysfunctional, that the solutions are relational, holistic, rooted in self-knowledge and support and a mutual determination to create spaces where good work can just happen. I know, because I've met people who believe it, too.

But there isn't a name for this yet (culture design? yuk), or an existing community, or anything people can join. So: Culture Club. (It's taken me this long mostly because I am one of those people who hate throwing parties, for fear nobody will turn up. Even though mostly, people do turn up, and I have a lovely time.)

The first one is on Thursday, 6th March, 8-9.30am, at the beautiful HOURS space in Bristol. Tickets are £20 to cover space hire and pastries (very important) but if that's not affordable for you, there's a free option you're welcome to use for any reason.

Do you also believe in the amount of good we could unlock in the world if only we could get out of our own way? Would you like to join the conversation (the movement!)?

You can book your spot here. I'd love to have you.

(There won't actually be a campfire, I'm afraid, although that is the eventual dream.)
